In a poignant social media update that has set the Ugandan digital landscape ablaze, opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, widely known as Bobi Wine, shared a moment of intellectual defiance. Amidst what he describes as a “criminal regime” hunting his family and himself, the National Unity Platform (NUP) president turned to literature to frame the current political struggle.
The book in question serves as a heavy mirror for the nation, and Kyagulanyi’s takeaway is clear: the promise of 1986 has not just been broken—it has been systematically dismantled.
“While the criminal regime continues to haunt my family and hunt me down, I took off time to read this very insightful book. Above all, it exposes Museveni for who he is and the damage he has done to our country, despite having come with the promise to break away from the past.
As Prof. Mamdani notes in this book, “The Museveni era has corroded the morals of an entire generation, and there is unlikely to be an easy solution to the problem. A pervasive corruption and cynicism cloud the country like a fog. It will take no less than a generation for the country to come out of it.”A depressing account it is. We have work cut out for us. We refuse to give up or give in. UGANDA WILL BE FREE.” – Bobi Wine said
