Man Is Detained For A Potentially Harmful Explosive Device

According to the Uganda Police, a guy in Banda Zone II was detained after it was discovered that he had created a bomb.
Police further disclosed that the arrested suspect, later identified as Mugabe Collins, tampered with the device before it accidentally detonated.
In collaboration with the territorial team in Kampala Metropolitan East, the Directorate of Counter-Terrorism responded to an explosion that accidentally detonated after being tampered with by its assembler. In Banda zone II, Nakawa division, the task team cordoned off the area, searched the area, and detained Mugabe Collins, age 23, according to a statement from the police.

The statement continued, “An assembled improvised explosive device (IED) was recovered, along with a variety of other bomb-making supplies, including notes and textbooks on the subject. These supplies included 3 jerrycans each of nitric acid, methanol, and ethanol, 6 bottles each of potassium nitrate, potassium bromide, ammonium nitrate, lead nitrate, and aluminum metal powder. He took action and built two IEDs, one of which he tampered with at night and accidentally set off.

According to the police, task teams are questioning him further to see whether he is associated with any terror organizations or a prospective target.

This incident serves as yet another warning to the community to remain vigilant. The arrest serves as evidence of our determination and commitment to combat and eradicate all kinds of terrorism and extremism in the nation.
